Family gatherings and festive dinners.
Simona, what does make holidays so merry and happy?

-For me, Christmas equals family gatherings and festive dinners. I remember my childhood and all those feelings when my grandmother was decorating the table… It was a tradition to use the best and most beautiful tablecloth. Homes were filled with a smell of cookies and cinnamon, and all our family was happily crooning Christmas melodies. Oh, that perfect times and old traditions.
Nowadays I have my own kids and we create new ways to spice up our Christmas but keep some old traditions too. Beautiful natural linen tablecloth and napkins are still the mane decor element for the table setting. But now we are more in sustainable and ecological living so trying to decorate our home with something old and a little bit new, not to spend too much and make it minimal but gorgeous. Less is more! - It is an old and wonderful rule.

You are making linen textiles for home, but how about other details you are using in your photoshoots and home?

-We have a great Etsy sellers team here in Lithuania. And I always met new people who are very talented and make gorgeous things. I can not share thing or use them in my daily life and photoshoots if I don't believe in them and I see bad quality. Many of my clients are asking for recommendations about dishes, silverware or even flower choices, so I can recommend only the best things I have tested myself.

So what can you recommend to our readers?

-Oh, I have a full list of this Christmas photoshoot members.
A few years ago, during our collaboration photoshoot, I met Migle (her shop MiLiCrafts). She is making wonderful soy wax candles. They are so adorable natural and if you wish you can order them with cinnamon or other aromas. I use them every day, but they perfectly fit for a festive table setting too. MiLiCrafts have different styles of candles which can fit in any decor.
I fall in love with wonderful handmade pottery by MrBowlCeramics. You can see how one set of ceramics was perfectly blurred in with all three different table settings. I love how uneven handmade pottery edges can look and that beautiful white matte glaze texture with small brown dots. Each piece is unique and may have imperfections that are perfect for me and shows the real handmade.
For this photoshoot and upcoming holiday dinners, I choused dried and bleached Italian Ruscus and dried broom bloom. And the last but very important tradition in our home is to use my grannies silverware for such important dinners.

Thank you, Simona, for sharing your ideas and pics.

Things you need to know about linen clothes

Linen is known to be the world’s strongest natural fiber. It is so durable it’s even used in paper money to increase strength! It is thicker than cotton and lasts a very long time. Linen textiles appear to be some of the oldest in the world: their history goes back many thousands of years. It was sometimes used as a form of currency in ancient Egypt. Linen is a more expensive raw material than cotton, but that’s pretty much the only con we could find.

So whats so great about linen? Linen clothes are best to wear during the summer months and in warm climates. Linen fibers are hollow, moving air and moisture naturally and fabric feels cool to touch, a phenomenon which indicates its higher conductivity. Clothes made of linen are also lightweight, wick away moisture and dry quickly. These properties allow linen clothing to feel cool, airy and light on the body. It is valued for its ability to keep cool in the summer months and trap warmth in colder weather.

The fabric is natural yet elegant, and its distinct texture adds a touch of interest to an outfit.
The most common complaint about linen is that it wrinkles very easily. Dennis Green share a real story of a nightmare wearing linen shirt. Linen has poor elasticity and does not spring back readily, explaining why it wrinkles. It is smooth, making the finished fabric lint-free, and gets softer the more it is washed. And if you know how to soften linen fabric the nightmare can become a daydream. Thanks to the emergence of new technologies for processing linen fibers, manufacturers are able to significantly reduce the effect of crushing.

Linen should not be dried too much by tumble drying, and it is much easier to iron when damp. Nevertheless, the tendency to wrinkle is often considered part of linen's particular "charm", and many modern linen garments are designed to be air-dried on a good clothes hanger and worn without the necessity of ironing.
Handmade linen clothes is very high quality. You can read more in the CozyLinen blog how they value their clients and what is the purpose behind it.

A characteristic often associated with linen yarn is the presence of "slubs", or small knots which occur randomly along its length. In the past, slubs were traditionally considered to be defects, and were associated with low quality linen. However, in the case of many present-day linen fabrics, particularly in the decorative furnishing industry, slubs are considered as part of the aesthetic appeal of an expensive natural product. In addition, slubs do not compromise the integrity of the fabric, and therefore they are not viewed as a defect. However, the very finest linen has very consistent diameter threads, with no slubs at all.

Linen fabrics have a high natural luster; their natural color ranges between shades of ivory, ecru, tan, or grey. Pure white linen is created by heavy bleaching. Linen fabric typically varies somewhat in thickness and is crisp and textured, but it can in some cases feel stiff and rough, and in other cases feel soft and smooth. When properly prepared, linen fabric has the ability to absorb and lose water rapidly. Linen can absorb a fair amount of moisture without feeling unpleasantly damp to the skin, unlike cotton.

Linen outfits are universal - they can be combined with jeans, leather, silk, chiffon, synthetic fabrics. And if you do not mind the inherent flaws, boldly dress in elegant dresses or shirts, going for a walk, to the office or to a cafe. From high fashion to casual wear!

Eco - Friendly Craft Business

Linen Produce Bags
Setting up your craft business is exciting yet challenging. Even if your product design is flawless and presentation is top notch, your materials are natural, sustainable, fair trade or came from local family farms, there are couple areas to work on: wrapping, packing and postage are usually pushed to the side, but it's a great opportunity to send your customer a message about sustainable living, remind of vast Earth pollution or introduce them to reducing, reusing and recycling.
And there is that warm and uplifting feeling, that the package from your handcrafted item won't live for your great grandchildren to dig up in the yard or end up as a whale's death cause.
Today we have a few ideas on materials, wrappings and different ways to pack those precious handmade items.
Linen Favor Bags
Handmade Natural Paper Bag
Jute Twine
So, what can we choose to wrap the items for shipping?
  • Tissue Paper - made from 100% recycled paper.
  • Natural Craft Paper is a mono-material that is easily and frequently recycled.
  • Castoff Kerchief - a light fabric neck scarf you haven't worn for ages.
  • Fabric scraps - a great way to use leftovers from sewing projects.
  • Natural ropes and twines - there are cotton, linen, jute, raw wool, nettle, hemp, paper or even sewing scrap ropes to tie the packed goods.
  • Handmade canvas string bags - natural or upcycled fabric bags.
  • Handmade paper or handmade paper bags.
  • Individual canvas tote bags.
Another very important step is packing. Parcel has to be protected from physical damage, moist, dust, has to look good and fit the postal requirements.
The most popular are cardboard boxes, look for recycled cardboard, skip the ones with plastic coating.
Second in line are mailers or mailing bags. These can be 80% or 100% recycled and can be recycled again. And there are paper ones with bio plastic padding or eco bubble wrap.
Another essential is packing tape, made of recycled paper and natural rubber.
There are eco friendly and biodegradable options available for all these supplies.

  • Old newspapers - an old faithful way to fill space in box, not too fancy though.
  • Shredded paper - usually made from recycled paper.
  • Wood shavings - not as common, but nice way to use bits and pieces from wood working station.

Apples... To eat or not to eat?..

All the week I thought about Halloween, and suddenly I saw an APPLE, yes, an APPLE!!!
Autumn, apple time, apple pie, apple decorations, apple in the garden, apple in the market.. it's a wonderful time, when you feel and smell apples everywhere.. 😊
And sitting in the office I felt an absolutely powerful yearning to find something on the internet to help that autumn feeling along 😊
Every day it gets colder, we spend more and more time at home, so we really need a cozy atmosphere.
CozyHomeIdeas have these wonderful apples in their shop.
This ceramic apple is a wonderful gift and interior detail, I imagine how pleasant it is when somebody opens it and finds something delicious inside.
Or this apple, it smells of late autumn or Christmas...
Soon the apples on the trees will become only a memory, but you can decorate your home in autumn emotions. Mellsva creates these apple garlands.

Cozy home, warm and light around, but what about us? For our personal style BleuetClaymentine sells very realistic jewellery .
And the basic MUST BE in autumn at home is .. of course.. Apple pie, I found this recipe here  in Home is Where the Boat Is.
It could be the best activity on a weekend or an evening, with kids.  And there are many possibilities to decorate this pie, for example with these rolling pins from DoughRoller
That's all for today. ENJOY! Apple time.. mmm, waiting for work hours to end, will go bake my apple pie ;)

Personal wool OOAK dolls by SmallMiraclesDolls

This time we introducing a wonderful baby dolls author SmallMiraclesDolls.
Here is her story and shop link.

Perfectly handmade - Personal OOAK dolls, Warming microwavable baby toys, New baby gifts

Meet the dolls that are born from dreams and create small miracles in people’s hearts. Each doll as unique as the person it’s being made for himself. 100% handmade, stuffed with warmth, love and care, good thoughts and wishes.
The main idea for WARMING GNOMES is soft handmade dolls stuffed with wool, with a small bag of salt or buckwheat inside. All you have to do is to warm the bag in the oven or microwave and put it back to the dolls belly. The wool takes the warmth of the bag and the toy stays warm longer, giving your child a snuggy hug and thermal healing.
Each toy lives in his own bag, containing short instructions of using. It’s a perfect gift visiting a newborn!
You can choose one of many available colours and combinations, suitable for a girl, a boy or a baby-surprise. :)
I also love making OOAK (one-of-a-kind) DOLLS, it's my real passion, which brings a lot of joy and also challenge each time I start a new project.
Why are they so special? They have a little heart inside their chest, something intended for that specific doll and the person it’s being made for. It can be something I feel is needed or anything you bring a meaning – amber, sea stone with a hole, shell, ring, cross… It also has a little note with written wishes or traits for that someone special. Each doll has its own energy and also its own special heart with wishes from me and you.
The doll can be anything you want to. As a boy, it also has something only the boys have – otherwise how would you know it’s a boy? 😉 A child can undress the doll completely, the clothes are removable, so you can wash them or sew something yourself. It’s also useful for the children to train undressing the dolls and fastening the buttons.
The hair is easy to brush, band and braid without any fear it gets damaged. The doll is soft, warm and cosy. The arms and legs move and bend. Size approx. 35 cm (13.8 in), weight 200 g (0.44 lb).
The dolls are made mainly FOR CHILDREN. They are completely safe, suitable for hugging, playing, loving, snuggling.

Felt - oldest textile techniques

We woul like to share JurgaFeltLife video about felting procese.

Felt making is considered to be one of the oldest textile techniques. Here is used wet felting which involves only warm water, natural soap and a few simple wooden and ceramic tools. It takes time to felt a pair of slippers, and it is a rather complicated process. To get a nice shape, it is necessary to possess shoe lasts and also sharp eyes. In the beginning, wool is precisely weighed in accordance with a special table of weight, as different sizes require different amount of wool. Jurga usually uses undyed natural wool, but she likes some decorative elements of dyed wool too. She is using different moulds for different sizes. First of all, she line dry wool and apply water to the fabric. A pair of slippers is lined together. When the wool is lined and wet, it is time to start felting. Slippers are twisted into a towel and then rolling many times. Afterwards, Jurga's husband takes the slippers into his hands to give them a nice shape, to rinse in clean water and dry them next to the fireplace. Felting is a long process which takes time and requires physical strength of a felter. In the different point of view, it is such a pleasure to work with natural fibres, natural wool which comes from animal-friendly farms. Jurga usually use European wool, and are very concerned about the issue of ecology.
